What Happens in Restorative Justice?

A restorative justice conference is an informal facilitated meeting between the victim, offender, support people and any other approved people such as community representatives.

A trained facilitator will make sure everyone is safe and supported.  They will also make sure the discussion stays on track.

Restorative justice takes place before an offender is sentenced in court.

Restorative justice services are run by community based groups that are contracted to the Ministry of Justice.  All groups are approved by the Ministry of Justice because they have experience and training to make sure the restorative justice process is safe and supportive for everyone.
